Azle finalizes new leader as next assistant city manager

City officials have finalized the appointment of Amber Beard as assistant city manager for the city of Azle.

Beard brings more than a decade of municipal experience, serving as director of public works for the city of Colleyville and general manager of the Schertz/Seguin Local Government Corporation. In her new role, she will support city operations, strategic initiatives and community development efforts for the city.

Whitesboro public safety director named next fire chief

Jeff Patterson has been named fire chief for the Whitesboro Fire Department while continuing to serve as the city’s director of public safety.

Patterson succeeds retiring Fire Chief Steve Pinkston and brings more than two decades of fire and emergency services experience, including prior leadership roles with the Whitesboro and Addison fire departments. In his expanded role, he will oversee fire, EMS, dispatch and emergency management operations for the city.

Economic development officials select new CEO in Port Arthur

The Port Arthur Economic Development Corporation has named Krystle Villarreal Muller its new chief executive officer following unanimous approval by the Port Arthur City Council.

A Port Arthur native and Thomas Jefferson High School graduate, Muller has worked with the EDC since 2008, most recently serving as interim CEO and deputy director. Her priorities include workforce development, transparency and community engagement as the organization advances infrastructure initiatives.

Bellaire names police chief following months-long search

Jason D. Hester has been named chief of police for the city of Bellaire following a months-long search to replace former Chief Onesimo Lopez.

Hester will begin the role May 18 and brings nearly three decades of law enforcement leadership experience with the Texas Department of Public Safety. He most recently served as chief of DPS’s Infrastructure Operations Division, overseeing statewide operational and security functions.

Out-of-state leader selected to lead St. Edwards University

St. Edward’s University has appointed Matthew Shank as interim president following the announced departure of President Montserrat Fuentes. Shank will begin transitioning into the role in June and officially assume leadership July 1.

Shank previously served as president of Marymount University from 2011 to 2018 and most recently led the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges. University leaders cited his collaborative leadership style and higher education experience as the institution prepares for a future presidential search.

San Antonio shores up communications with new CIO appointment

The city of San Antonio has appointed Marshall Ramsey as its new chief information officer, succeeding longtime CIO Craig Hopkins following his retirement announcement.

Ramsey most recently served as CIO for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Ramsey will oversee one of Texas’ largest municipal technology operations, supporting IT services across more than 40 city departments and 500 facilities, including cybersecurity, public safety systems and smart city initiatives.
