Texas Women’s University (TWU) will spend $30 million to design and build a new athletic complex on its main campus in Denton.
The university released a Request for Qualification (RFQ) on May 20. The submission deadline is set for July 7.
A pre-submittal conference and sight walk will be held June 12 at 1 p.m. at the TWU health science center with attendance mandatory for prime firms.
Construction is set to begin in January 2027 with the facilities expected to be open and in use by the spring 2029 semester.
The athletic complex is designed to accommodate TWU’s growing athletic programs. The new facility aims to benefit key sports teams such as basketball, volleyball and gymnastics.
Dedicated support spaces for the school’s softball and soccer teams are a priority as they do not currently have those facilities. These spaces will include a significantly enlarged state –of–the–art weight room that can accommodate multiple teams simultaneously and new locker rooms.
The need for the new athletic complex comes as the number of student athletes at TWU has more than doubled in the last decade and the addition of new athletic programs like STUNT, wrestling, artistic swimming and dance.
