The Texas Legislature approved $29.6 million for the project that will raze 488 World War II-era housing units and 20 separate buildings in the initial phase. Over the next two years, TSTC will demolish 208 homes, followed by 148 homes, and 132 homes.

Once complete, the college will construct a new 250-bed residence hall to serve displaced and new students. Officials expressed interest in forming a public-private partnership (P3) for that project scheduled to start in February 2021.

Other work includes removal of streets, water lines, and wastewater lines.
