The Governor’s Office announced Jan. 8 the appointment of Amanda Crawford as the state’s next Commissioner of Insurance for a term set to expire in Feb. 1 2027.

Crawford, a Round Rock native, is the state’s current Chief Information Officer and executive director for the Texas Department of Information Resources, managing communications and technology modernizations for the state, among other responsibilities. She previously served as deputy attorney general for administration and general counsel at the Office of the Attorney General of Texas.

In her new role, Crawford will assist in guiding the state’s efforts to upgrade consumer protections and enforce insurance-related regulations. She will also provide technical and actuarial expertise to the state legislature, implement insurance-related statutes passed by the government and support rulemaking and policy guidance statewide.

A member of the State Bar of Texas and a past president of the National Association of State Chief Information Officers, Crawford received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of Texas at Austin and a Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center.

The Texas State Commission of Insurance, also known as the Department of Insurance (TDI), is responsible for the regulation of insurance companies while overseeing insurance products and rates statewide. In addition, TDI manages building and disaster-related programs, including the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association, post disaster response initiatives and building codes in designated coastal areas.
