The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents has announced the next step in its leadership overhaul, announcing the unanimous appointment of Dr. Susan Ballabina as the next Texas A&M University President.
The vote followed the state-required 21-day waiting period after Ballabina was named the sole finalist for the position. Regents conducted a national search before selecting Ballabina, citing her experience, institutional knowledge and ability to lead at scale.
Ballabina currently serves as executive vice chancellor of The Texas A&M University System, where she has helped oversee systemwide operations, advance strategic initiatives and support the work of the system’s universities and agencies across Texas.
Her career includes more than three decades of service to Texas A&M and the state. She has held several senior leadership positions, including chief of staff to the president, senior vice president for academic and strategic collaborations, and deputy vice chancellor and chief operating officer for Texas A&M AgriLife.
Her work has included strengthening statewide programs, supporting research and education initiatives, building partnerships and coordinating large-scale efforts, including the Healthy South Texas initiative and disaster recovery efforts after Hurricane Harvey.
Board Chairman Robert L. Albritton said the unanimous vote reflected a clear direction for the university and confidence in Ballabina’s leadership. Chancellor Glenn Hegar said Ballabina understands Texas A&M’s mission and the responsibility of leading the university.
Ballabina will officially assume the role on May 11. She will become the 28th president of Texas A&M University.
