Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced on Oct. 9 the distribution of $1.1 billion in monthly sales tax revenue to local governments. The allocations, distributed among cities, transit systems, counties and special purpose districts, are based on sales made in August by businesses that report monthly tax.
Cities are the largest recipient with $715.1 million for the month of October. This represents a 3.3% increase from October 2024, and a year-to-date increase of 4.1%. Some of the cities receiving the largest amounts include:
- Houston – $71.9 million.
- San Antonio – $38.2 million.
- Dallas – $34.3 million.
- Austin – $28.5 million.
- Fort Worth – $19.9 million.
Transit systems are next in terms of total allotment, receiving $238.5 million this month. This is a 3% gain over October of last year, with transit systems showing a year-to-date uptick of 3.9% so far. The systems receiving the most from this distribution include:
- Houston MTA – $85.7 million.
- Dallas MTA – $73.2 million.
- Austin MTA – $31.9 million.
- San Antonio MTA – $17.2 million.
- Fort Worth MTA – $9.7 million.
Special purpose districts are next on the list, receiving $115.8 million, a 7% increase from the previous year, along with a 9.6% year-to-date change. Districts receiving the most support include:
- Fort Worth Crime Control – $9.7 million.
- Harris County ESD 9 – $5.2 million.
- Ector County Hospital District – $4.8 million.
- Ector County Asst District – $2.9 million.
- Reeves County Asst District 1 – $2.9 million.
Counties are the final major entity to receive distributed funds, with $70.8 million going out for the month of October. This is a 5.4% increase from last year, with counties also showing an increased year-to-date change of 5.5%. Counties receiving the highest distribution include:
- El Paso – $6.3 million.
- Midland – $5.5 million.
- Brazoria – $4 million.
- Jefferson – $3.3 million.
- Lubbock – $3.1 million.
