Louisiana school district to re-bid high school project in 3-4 months
Louisiana – Ascension Public Schools trustees authorized staff to re-bid the construction contract for a new Prairieview High School after previous bids came in over the district’s budget.
The district budgeted $79.5 million for the new campus, but the lowest bid came in at $100 million due to rising construction costs.
Under the new plan, the district will decrease capacity of the new high school from 1,900-2,100 students to 1,670-1,900 students and remove a classroom wing from the project scope.
Seating at the high school’s stadium will be reduced from 5,000 to a maximum of 3,700, and the stadium’s press box and locker rooms will be smaller.
A Freshman Academy will be retained to be included with 86 teaching stations, science labs, physical education space, and break out rooms.
The school district plans to split the project into two solicitations to be issued in three to four months. Construction is expected to take two years.
