The city of Houston will spend $61.6 million to reconstruct a heavily worn corridor and strengthen community connections and transportation. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2026.

Located on Greens Road, the project will widen the roadway between JFK Boulevard to US 59. The completed initiative will feature a four-lane, divided concrete roadway with completely rebuilt and replaced pavement.

In addition, the city plans to improve drainage infrastructure and increase the corridor’s resilience. This will include installing storm sewers, curbs and underground utilities designed to channel and manage stormwater runoff.

Additional work will consist of implementing an array of transit improvements to improve overall safety for local commuters. The city will add sidewalks, driveways and upgraded street lighting, enabling residents to safely travel to essential amenities and destinations.

Notably, the corridor has been highlighted as one of the city’s key flood-mitigation corridors. The investments will help ensure that the route remains open to maintain access to the George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and nearby industrial centers during inclement weather.
