Don Huffines has officially been sworn in as the next Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. He will serve as the permanent comptroller, assuming the mantle held by Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock following Glenn Hegar’s departure from the role in July 2025.
Before accepting his role as the state’s chief financial officer on Aug. 1, Huffines previously served in the Texas Senate as a major proponent of individual liberties and taxpayers. He also built a successful career in the private sector, founding a real estate development firm that has helped thousands of Texan families own a home.
Huffines has gone on record highlighting property tax relief as one of his highest priorities in the office. His platform indicates that he will continue working toward making homeownership more affordable, strengthen financial security for families and serve as a steward for the Texas economy.
Notably, he has declined a state salary while serving as comptroller. Pulling from his private sector experience, Huffines has laid out a plan to position Texas as a national leader with a thriving economy, record job creation and ample opportunities for residents to succeed.
Huffinnes has a Bachelor of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin.
