The College Station City Council has approved a $576.4 million Fiscal Year 2027 city budget, accompanied by a 1.84-cent increase in the property tax rate to 53.0254 cents per $100 of property valuation. The average homeowner will see an increase of $68 per year.
The Fiscal Year 2026 city budget was 12.4 percent lower than the previous year, and city officials say much of the Fiscal Year 2027 increase is tied to capital improvements, as day-to-day operations are expected to increase by only 1.2 percent. The budget includes $181.6 million for capital projects and $394.75 million for operations and maintenance.
A new Public Works facility, a fire station, infrastructure and amenities for area parks and roadway improvements are among the larger projects in the budget. Some long-term needs addressed in the budget for the police department include additional officers and vehicles, a volunteer coordinator and a forensic evidence technician. Public safety personnel will receive a 3 percent cost-of-living adjustment, while all city employees will receive a 3 percent across-the-board pay increase.
The council approved the budget measure with a 6-1 vote and the tax measure with a 5-2 vote.
