Tony Sauerhoff has been confirmed permanent executive director for the Department of Information Resources (DIR). The decision was finalized during a special meeting today.
Sauerhoff was initially placed as the department’s interim executive director in January. Before accepting that role, he served as the DIR chief artificial intelligence (AI) and innovation officer.
He brings more than 33 years of experience to the role, working in various IT and cybersecurity roles throughout his career. Sauerhoff joined DIR in 2022, starting as the deputy chief information security officer and state cybersecurity coordinator before being promoted to state chief information security officer in 2024.
Additional roles he held before joining DIR include working as a circuit IT security officer for the United States Courts, deputy director for the Marine Forces Reserve and as a communications specialist for the Air Force.
Sauerhoff sports an extensive education resume, capped with a master’s degree in information security and privacy from the University of Texas at Austin (UT-Austin). He holds a bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity from Champlain College and graduated from the Governor’s Executive Development and Executive Leadership in Information Technology Excellence programs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs.
