Gov. Greg Abbott has made two reappointments to the Texas Transportation Commission (TTC), retaining Alejandro Meade III and Robert Vaughn as commissioners. TTC oversees the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), operating as the policymakers for the state’s highway system, statewide transportation plan development, public transportation development and rule adoption for TxDOT operations.
Meade is the executive vice president of a regional bank and previously served as city manager for the city of Pharr. Prior to his tenure with Pharr, Meade was CEO of the Mission Economic Development Corporation. He previously held a seat on the Texas State Technical College System Board of Regents and the Texas Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors.
Meade is an alumnus of the Texas Lyceum and is certified as an economic development finance professional by the National Development Council and as a public manager by the National Certified Public Manager Consortium. He earned a master’s degree in public administration from The University of Texas (UT) Pan American, a master’s degree in business administration from UT Brownsville and a bachelor’s degree in business administration in economics from St. Edward’s University.
Vaughn is invested in several energy and real estate investment special purpose entities and owns his own consulting firm. He has an extensive public record, currently serving on the Culver Educational Foundation Board of Trustees, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science Board of Directors and the Board of Managers of a publicly traded limited partnership for energy and minerals.
He previously served as chairman of the TexNet Technical Advisory Committee, the UT System Chancellor’s Council Executive Committee, UT McDonald Observatory and the Department of Astronomy Board of Visitors. Vaughn has earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from UT Austin.
In addition, he is a lifelong member of the UT Austin Development Board and the Longhorn Foundation Advisory Council.
