After serving seven years in the role, Tedd Mitchell, M.D., has announced that he will retire as chancellor of the Texas Tech University (TTU) System before the end of the year.
Mitchell has been with the system for the past 15 years, initially beginning his tenure as president of the TTU Health Sciences Center in 2010. He transitioned to his current role as the system’s fifth chancellor and CEO in 2018, holding a dual appointment as both chancellor and president for a year before stepping away from his presidential tenure.
While the Board of Regents begins their search for his successor, Mitchell will remain in his capacity as chancellor to ease the transition process. Additional information will be provided during the board’s next regularly scheduled meeting in August.
As chancellor, Mitchell has presided over a five-university educational system with a $3 billion operating budget. Approximately 64,000 students are enrolled across all campuses.
Mitchell earned his Doctor of Medicine from The University of Texas Medical Branch. He also has a Bachelor of Science from Stephen F. Austin University.
