Tammy Gabel

Tammy Gabel joins the Strategic Partnerships Team bringing more than 30 years of progressive leadership experience in the education arena throughout California. She is known for her expertise in building collaborative partnerships between educational entities, community organizations, county services, state department of education agencies, and local businesses.

As a teacher and county office administrator in Los Angeles County, Tammy supported all 80 districts in Los Angeles County ranging from small rural districts to some of the largest urban school districts in the nation. In these roles she supported bilingual education, expanded learning programs, educational technology, and systems of support for school improvement.

Tammy also spent many years in Central and Northern California providing services to rural and suburban districts in small and medium sized districts. In these roles, she served as a principal, district administrator, and superintendent of schools in two districts. Hallmarks of this work included identifying public funds to support expanded learning opportunities and working with a private technology company to write custom software to track the funds, services, and attendance for students. This software was then shared across California.

Additional highlights of Tammy’s career included supporting the modernization and new construction of public school facilities. She worked closely with contractors using a lease-lease back methodology that resulted in efficient and high-quality outcomes. Another achievement of Tammy’s experience was her ability to address fiscal shortfalls. Under her leadership, budgets were redesigned and right-sized, resulting in balanced budgets and effective economies of scale.
Building strong relationships with others was another hallmark of Tammy’s work. Throughout her career, she was known as a connector. Tammy cultivated strong relationships throughout California, ranging from elected leaders to high-ranking officials at the California Department of Education, executives of fiscal oversight agencies, the California System of Support, county offices, school districts, and many community-based organizations, and local stakeholders. She will be a great asset to the SPI Team.

She has been involved as an instructor and dissertation committee member at several universities and has received numerous awards and accolades.

Tammy earned a Doctor of Education from University of La Verne and both a Master of Education and bachelor’s degree from Azusa Pacific University.
