Renewable energy projects to begin across Texas

. . . continued from page one

Shallowater ISD's $616,000 project of installing a solar PV system on its elementary school will benefit from more than $476,000 in grant funds. Nearly 80 percent of Munday ISD's $311,000 project to install a PV system on one of its buildings will be paid for with its nearly $250,000 grant. The Wilkerson Greines Activity Center in the Fort Worth ISD will get a roof-mounted solar PV system, with more than $143,000 in grant funds going toward the more than $234,000 project.

Half of St. Philip's College's $4 million solar PV system on a building on its Southwest Campus will be paid for with $2 million in stimulus funds. The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, too, was awarded grant funds of $2 million. The institution will provide $400,000 in matching funds to pay for a solar PV carport at its Thermal Plant.

Two public libraries also benefitted from grant awards. The City of Bedford's public library was awarded $1,998,800 which will be matched with $2,215,335 toward a $4.2 million solar energy system to be installed on the library roof. Irving's public library was awarded $1,158,316 in grant funds that will be matched by $231,663 to pay for its $1,389,969 project of installing a roof-mounted solar PV system.

One of the awards, $978,226 to Texas State Technical College-Waco, will not only help pay for a $1.2 million solar array on the Electronics Center and adjacent parking lot, but will also provide a hands-on training lab area for training in solar panel installation and maintenance for students or industries.

Other entities awarded funding include The University of Texas at Arlington, Cameron County, Austin Community College, Texas Southmost College, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (Austin Headquarters and Regions I, II and III), the City of Duncanville, The University of Texas at San Antonio, the City of Grand Prairie, Hopkins County, the Adjutant General's Department, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, the City of San Antonio, Texas State Technical College-Harlingen, the City of Alpine, the City of Horseshoe Bay, the University of North Texas-Dallas, the City of Henrietta and the City of Sunset Valley.
