New York state is kicking off a $100 million Child Care Capital Construction Funding Program to connect more than 10,000 children to vital childcare programs, facilities and services.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the plan Dec. 1. It expands on a $50 million program launched in 2024 and is part of more than $8 billion the state has invested in child care since she took office. The governor says her agenda expands affordable care, eases provider requirements, strengthens the workforce and supports employers.

The program will help build or upgrade child care facilities by covering costs for design, construction, renovation, equipment and other capital needs. Eligible projects include not-for-profit or municipal child day care centers, school-age programs and New York City–permitted group day care sites. Funded facilities must operate as child care programs for at least eight years and be located in communities that lack enough licensed options.

Applications will be accepted Feb. 2 through March 13, 2026, with awards expected after May 4. Grants will range from $500,000 to $5 million, with 60% directed to downstate regions and 40% to the rest of the state. The funding will be administered by the Office of Children and Family Services and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York.
