The expo’s steering committee also won Lubbock City Council approval of a zoning change request in March to allow construction on a site the committee purchased in January near North University Avenue and Loop 298.

County officials are preparing a request for qualifications (RFQ) for a construction manager, and county commissioners said they will vote on a $5 million bond to finance preliminary work on the proposed expo center.
