Lubbock County drafting RFQ for expo center construction manager contract
Lubbock County is continuing with its plans for a new expo center despite a drop in hotel occupancy that would help fund the project.
County commissioners authorized design and engineering of the Lubbock County Expo Center on April 27.
The expo’s steering committee also won Lubbock City Council approval of a zoning change request in March to allow construction on a site the committee purchased in January near North University Avenue and Loop 298.
County officials are preparing a request for qualifications (RFQ) for a construction manager, and county commissioners said they will vote on a $5 million bond to finance preliminary work on the proposed expo center.
