Lonestar: Don Warren, Mayor of Tyler

Don Warren

August 1, 2025

My public career highlights and education:

I was born and raised in Tyler, graduated from Tyler ISD and Texas Tech, and have served three terms on City Council and three terms as Mayor. I’ve helped lead major infrastructure, public safety, and quality-of-life projects that reflect my commitment to serving all of Tyler.

The best part of public service:

What I enjoy most about public service is helping people, listening to their concerns, and turning their ideas into action that improves lives across our community.

Some of the best advice you have ever received:

The best advice I’ve received is that leadership isn’t about being the smartest person in the room. It’s about listening, caring, following through, and loving thy neighbor.

Something I wish more people knew about my division of government:

I wish more people knew that the Mayor and City Council aren’t paid. We do this because we care deeply about Tyler and want to help it thrive.

A current project or initiative that I am working on:

Right now, we’re preparing for a major renovation to our Downtown. The goal is to make it a destination hub, so we’re going to add wider sidewalks, change one-way roads to two-way, and establish a green space where people can hang out and make memories.

One thing outside of government service people may not know about me:

I once dreamed of being a movie producer. These days, I enjoy watching movies with my wife, Chelli. Knotting Hill is one of those movies that we watch that feels good. We’ve seen it over a hundred times.

POTM: They’re here and a movin’!
