The city of Kyle recently approved the $161.9 million master plan for an upcoming sportsplex campus. The project’s next step will be to procure an architect, followed by construction beginning at an unannounced date.
The city has divided the project up into a series of areas to more efficiently facilitate development. Area 1A will consist of a series of recreational fields, including soccer fields, a volleyball and basketball complex and a championship field. The area will also feature the completion of an extended road bridge, parking and drive infrastructure, trails, landscaping and a playground.
Area 1B is significantly smaller in scale compared to its counterpart. Major features include two soccer fields, landscape and wayfinding and parking and drive infrastructure.
Kyle will move onto the next section to prioritize indoor recreation and amenities. Area 2 will include an indoor recreation center, a futsal and multi-use complex and a splashpad. Guests will also be able to enjoy multiple food and beverage spaces, a community plaza and ample parking and drive infrastructure.
Area 3 focuses primarily on pedestrian travel options, providing secure, safe transit for non-motorized travelers. The project’s major goal for this portion centers around building a crossing along the nearby highway. Additional work will install a trail with lighting, landscaping, a pedestrian bridge and a linear park.
The city will build a multi-use field, pickleball complex and disk golf course for the final area. Plans include implementing extensive landscaping, building a trail with lighting, a pedestrian bridge and native gardens. Area 4 also contains a mini park, catering to the needs of park visitors of all abilities.
The mini park features a sizable flex lawn and multiple picnic areas. Along with a small and large dog park, the site includes a parking lot and – most notably – a sensory village providing an all-inclusive experience for visitors. The inclusive playground includes several features designed to accommodate those of all ages and abilities, such as a village overlook, universal carousel, communication panel, track ride tower and swings. The playground will also include a village tower, carousel and splash table.
