The city of Houston has provided an updated timeline for a $22 million hike-and-bike bridge project in Uptown that will provide safe multimodal travel to Memorial Park. The city now anticipates beginning construction in 2026.

The completed bridge will provide a direct connection between Uptown and Memorial Park, prioritizing a safe travel lane for pedestrians and cyclists. Currently, mobility options along this route are limited due to a lack of dedicated facilities for non-motorized and multimodal travelers.

The project will run alongside the Loop 610 highway, providing an up to 10-foot-wide shared-use path beginning near Uptown Park. While building the first segment of the concrete path, the city will make various improvements to nearby neighborhood shared street connections by installing bicycle route signage, wayfinding and lighting.

The path will then connect to a suspension bridge over Buffalo Bayou, leading to an underpass crossing the highway. The city plans to make repairs to Loop 610’s rip-rap embankment, retaining walls and column surrounds. A raised boardwalk system is planned as part of the trail, located in the Old Archery Range.

Houston will make final safety improvements to ensure pedestrians will be able to safely reach Memorial Park. These counter measures will target intersections and include modifying free flowing right turn islands, crosswalks, signage, signalization, regulatory signs and wayfinding signage.
