As part of the project’s first phase, the district will build a two-story addition to the front of the school to connect the auditorium to the pool. This section of the facility is planned as an innovation center, containing offices for an innovation lab, collaborative spaces, flexible-use classrooms, a media center, school store and ample offices for school administrators.

A significant amount of the school’s classrooms is slated for renovations during the first phase. In addition, the swimming pool, auditorium and roof will be upgraded. Corridors will also be extensively renovated. Additional space will be dedicated to visual arts, commtech, administration and support, science, core academics and a fitness courtyard.

The second phase will focus on improvements to additional classrooms, the cafeteria and the library. Plans include building a new cafeteria and kitchen, library and learning commons, a dedicated cafeteria courtyard, physical education spaces, a family and consumer sciences area, a technology and engineering education space with accompanying outdoor mechanical and STEM yards.

During the project’s third phase, the district will prioritize the field house. Work will include expanding the field house lobby and renovating the inside of the field house. HASD will also renovate the back section of the high school and rework the parking lot.

The district will demolish the existing Franklin Wing portion of the school as part of the project. The project vision also calls for improvements to stormwater systems and various utilities.
