Hays County, Texas, is making moves to revise its development regulations for the first time since 2010, beginning with a round of public input on a variety of topics.
County officials held several open-house meetings Sept. 2, inviting the community to hear current recommendations from both county officials and consultants from Freese and Nichols, Inc.
The county partnered with an engineering and environmental consultancy to help with reviewing and analyzing current county regulations. The firm will provide feedback and recommendations based on their findings.
The new regulations will impact an array of development-related issues, with water availability and quality named as the primary issue facing the growing county. The regulations will also influence erosion control, floodplain management, transportation infrastructure and environmental protections.
Any approved revisions would represent the first significant update to the county’s development regulations since 2010.
While no official plan has been released, community members who attended the Sept. 2 town halls heard from officials and consultants regarding the project’s goals, initial findings and anticipated timeline.
