Kyle Hawkins has been chosen as the latest addition to the Supreme Court of Texas. His term is set to expire on Dec. 31, 2026.
Hawkins currently works as partner and chair of Texas appellate practice at a law firm, a role held for more than three years. In the public sector, he most recently served on the Department of Justice Transition team in Washington, D.C. as counselor to the solicitor general.
He previously served in the Office of the Attorney General for three and a half years. During that time, his roles included operating as the solicitor general of Texas and assistant solicitor general. He has also served as a law clear for the Supreme Court of the United States and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Hawkins previously served as an adjunct professor of law at the University of Texas Law School.
Hawkins earned his law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University.
