The city of Granbury will move forward with plans to make major improvements to its water system, including the construction of a $100 million water treatment facility.

The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) recently allocated $57.8 million to help the city advance critical water projects. These efforts will include building the water treatment facility as well as improving the existing plant’s advanced treatment capabilities. Both projects will contribute to the city’s efforts to reduce emerging contaminants, including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

The Granbury City Council officially secured TWDB’s investment earlier this month. With the agency’s support, the city will progress efforts to improve its drinking water system’s quality, capacity and reliability.

The award will enable the city to complete the planning, design and construction portions of both projects. The upcoming water treatment facility and plant improvements are foundational elements of Granbury’s approximately $250 million plan to enhance water and sewer infrastructure in its 10-year Capital Improvement Plan.
