The General Land Office (GLO) has awarded $49.7 million to provide critical disaster recovery support for infrastructure, targeting roadway, drainage, sewer and wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) improvement projects. Delivered through the Disaster Recovery Reallocation Program, nine cities will receive funding to help rebuild communities following disasters caused by extreme weather.
The following are a selection of the projects receiving support:
The city of Baytown will receive $20 million to recover from damage to its streets and drainage systems caused by Hurricane Harvey. Market Street will receive the bulk of the work, targeting reconstruction efforts on existing roadways to raise its elevation by approximately seven feet. The city will also upgrade the street drainage system with larger pipes. Additional work in a separate part of the city will include installing pipes, inlets, manholes and an outfall as part of a new storm sewer system.
Pasadena will receive $9 million from GLO to improve two WWTPs. The project will enhance both facilities’ sludge dewatering system performance and solids system performance. Once completed, both WWTPs will benefit from reduced hauling frequency and associated costs.
The city of Dayton will spend $4.9 million on a series of infrastructure improvements across two streets. Both streets will receive the same treatment, involving reconstruction of deteriorated roadways and road surfaces.
The city of Cleveland will invest $4.5 million to improve its WWTP, water plant and drainage infrastructure. Plans for the WWTP include installing a generator with all necessary upgrades and replacing its blower motors and diffusers. Separate work at the city’s water plant centers around installing two diesel generators. Finally, to improve the city’s flood and drainage systems, the project will regrade ditches and install storm sewers, manholes and storm sewer inlets.
The remaining grant recipients include:
- Palmview will use $3.5 million to reconstruct roadways, improve roadside swales, remove and replace roadway and driveway culverts, RCP pipes, grate inlets and discharge structures.
- Ames will spend $2.7 million to Repair and reconstruct streets, reshape ditches and culverts, restore driveway and roadway surfaces and build new drainage ditches.
- Jasper will receive $2.3 million to replace sewer lines, rehabilitate manholes and install new manholes.
- Kirbyville will invest $2 million to replace and/or rehabilitate collection lines and manholes and rehabilitate lift stations and associated service connections.
- Daisetta will spend $1.1 million to reconstruct streets.
