FAA grants to fund $1.78B in airport upgrades nationwide

July 8, 2026

The US Department of Transportation announced two Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grants totaling $1.776 billion to upgrade American airports with runway rehabilitations, family-friendly enhancements, and safety upgrades.

The Airport Improvement Program grants provide approximately $4 billion per year to fund airport infrastructure projects such as runways, taxiways, airport signage, airport lighting, and airport markings.

Similarly, the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act created additional Airport Infrastructure Grants that provide an additional $3 billion per year in additional funding from the 2022-2026.

The additional funding from those grants will be distributed to airports across 48 states including

  • $88.8 million to Denver International Airport for pavement projects.
  • $74 million to Boise Air Terminal/Gowen Field for runway rehabilitation, apron expansion, and upgrading visual guidance lights.
  • $62.4 million to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport for runway and runway lighting rehabilitation.
  • $62.2 million to Houston Hobby Airport for runway construction.
  • $47.6 to John F. Kennedy International Airport for taxiway construction and reconstructing aircraft rescue and firefighting buildings.
