The Corpus Christ City Council has approved a three-year water supply and rights agreement with Nueces County Water Control and Improvement District No. 3 (NCWCID#3) to strengthen regional water security during emergency.

The Treated Water Supply Contract and Water Rights Lease Agreement will enable the city to deliver up to 3 million-gallons-per-day (mgd) of treated water to NCWCID#3, supplementing their available water during emergency situations. In return, the district will lease 5 mgd of its senior water rights in the Nueces River Basin for the city’s use during the three-year period.

The city will build new infrastructure to accommodate water transfers. As part of the agreement, the district will build a 16-inch water line connection and a 300,000-gallong storage tank.

Corpus Christ will reimburse NCWCID#3 for all construction costs. Following its completion, the district will own and operate the facility.

The infrastructure designs for the project have already been completed. It’s expected that bidding for the construction phase will open in the near future.
