Adam Ward is Austin’s new chief technology officer. He comes to the role with more than 20 years of experience in IT and management, including enterprise architecture, infrastructure, cybersecurity and IT governance. Ward has spent the last 12 years as Bell County’s Chief Information Officer (CIO), and he also worked in the private sector as a systems manager for McLane Co. He holds a Master of Science in information systems and a Bachelor of Science in computer science from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

The City of Austin launched its recruitment for the position through Austin Technology Services in June after a restructuring of its IT operations under the One-ATS initiative, which is designed to bring departmental technology functions together.

In his new role, Ward will oversee approximately 130 employees and a technology budget exceeding $60 million. He will report to Austin CIO Kerrica Laake and will be responsible for the development and execution of the Technology Roadmap, including enterprise architecture and technology infrastructure, long-term IT planning and strategy, and the evaluation of new technologies for the city’s use.
