Millions flowing to Texas this week from Recovery Act

Some $150 million of the funds will be awarded through the Port Security Grant Program, and $23 million of that was headed to Texas. These funds can be used to protect critical port infrastructure from terrorism, enhance maritime domain awareness and risk-management capabilities and to support the credentialing program for workers who need access to secure areas of ports and vessels.

A breakdown of the Texas funding includes:

  • Houston-Galveston: Board of Trustees of the Galveston Wharves - $2,097,943; Harris County - $1,688,016; Industrial Terminals L.P. - $825,000; Kinder Morgan Liquids Terminals LLC - $715,512; Port of Houston Authority - $1,275,677; Port of Texas Security Council, Inc. - $4,382,560; South Central Cement LTD - $676,520; Texas Parks and Wildlife Department - $576,132; Texas Petrochemical Corp. - $3,920,950.
  • Corpus Christi: Port of Corpus Christi Authority - $1,065,990; Texas Docks and Rail Co. Ltd. - $287,406.
  • Freeport: Port Freeport - $1,940,032.
  • Sabine Neches: Jefferson County - $2,600,000; Kinder Morgan Liquids Terminals LLC - $63,871; Orange County Navigation and Port District, dba Port of Orange - $586,633.
  • Brownsville: Brownsville Navigation District - $66,126.
  • Port of Port Lavaca - Point Comfort: Calhoun Port Authority - $384,790.

Additionally, community fire stations will get a boost from $166 million awarded through the Fire Station Construction Grant Program (SCG), which will help communities in their response to emergencies by assisting with costs of new fire station construction and upgrades to existing facilities. Five Texas fire stations were included for this funding, with more than $10.6 million awarded. Two San Antonio fire stations were among the big winners. Station #51 in San Antonio was awarded $3.7 million and San Antonio's Station #50 garnered $3.5 million. The Allen Fire Department was awarded $1,803,126, Burleson's Briaroaks Volunteer Fire Department Inc. earned $301,800 and the City of El Paso's Station #31 garnered $1,256, 115.

Four renewable energy projects in Texas each drew multi-million-dollar awards when $550 million nationwide was awarded in clean energy grants. The grants will pay cash to companies in lieu of tax credits to support solar, wind, biomass and other renewable energy production facilities.

Texas Barton Chapel Wind Farm at Jacksboro was awarded $72,573,627. Texas Rio Grande Valley Sugar Growers, Inc. in Santa Rosa was awarded $10,232,261. In O'Donnell, Texas Bull Creek Wind earned an award of $91,390,497 and the Texas Pyron Wind Farm, LLC in Roscoe earned a total of $121,903,306.
