McCraw, DPS announce organizational changes

. . . continued from page one

The Deputy Director of Services position is still vacant. The agency has advertised for the position of Assistant Director for Finance, which is also currently vacant. That position will report to the Assistant Director for Services.

Amanda Arriaga, a former employee of the Governor's Office, has been named the new head of Government Relations. An attorney, she has served as the governor's advisor on Border Issues, the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission, the Texas Youth Commission and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

DPS also is advertising for an inspector general and the position of chief information officer was elevated to the assistant director level.

Additionally, the Governor's Office of Homeland Security is being transferred, along with its five staff members, to DPS. The employees will be assigned to existing DPS divisions.

Regarding DPS regions, new boundaries have been established. Each of the six DPS regions will include four Councils of Governments. New regional headquarters will be established in El Paso and San Antonio, while the current regional headquarters in Corpus Christi, Waco and the Capitol Complex will become area offices.

Some $110 million in bonds were sold just last week, part of which will be used for new or expanded crime labs, the regional headquarters in Weslaco and a new area office in Rio Grande City.
