DPS rolling out big guns for statewide recruiting effort

. . . continued from page one

The next DPS recruit class begins in September. The current recruit class will graduate in October and leave the agency with 244 commissioned vacancies and 80 new commissioned positions approved by the Texas Legislature. A pay increase authorized by the legislature also is expected to help recruiting efforts.

And the flashy DPS vehicles can't hurt.

DPS has established a toll-free recruiting hotline - 1-866-TX TROOP (1-866-898-7667), for those with questions regarding becoming a Trooper. Information also is available on the DPS Web site. Applications are available from the nearest DPS office.

To qualify for DPS Trooper training, recruits must be United States citizens, at least 20 years of age and have completed 90 hours of college credit or an associate's degree. Law enforcement or military experience may be used toward fulfilling the college requirement.
