Texas entities prepare for annual hurricane conference

Sponsored by the GDEM, conference attendees will include emergency managers, law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, Texas Military Forces, federal agencies such as the National Weather Service, the U.S. Coast Guard, FEMA and state agencies represented on the Governor's Emergency Management Council.

Among the workshop topics for this year's conference are emergency management, evacuation and sheltering, health and medical/special needs populations and more. The workshops will address such issues as a fuel plan update, insurance response to disasters, disaster communications and sheltering and evacuating pets during a disaster. Nearly 50 exhibitors are currently signed up and exhibits will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. the first two days of the conference.
