TexasCounties4U Web site a bonanza of information

. . . continued from page one

The Web site features "how to" video clips that explain various county services. The videos explain how to save on property taxes by filing for exemptions, the importance of paying property taxes on time and how to minimize consequences of not paying by the deadline. Other videos address how to protect both buyer and seller in a vehicle sales transaction and title transfer and how to qualify and apply for disabled license plates and placards.

The site provides links to all Texas counties that have Web sites. This is the place to go for information about road and bridge work, public safety, jails, vehicle registrations, voter registration, property taxes and health and human services.

Some of the resources on the site link to an almanac-type overview of each county including population estimates, demographics, tax rates, infrastructure spending and miles of road per county. For map enthusiasts, there are maps that show all 254 counties and their boundaries. Interestingly enough, most county seats fall within five miles of their county's center!

There are even fun facts about counties - the smallest Texas county is Rockwall County, with only 149 square miles, and Texas counties range in population from fewer than 100 people to more than 3 million!

In a state as large as Texas, county government plays a key role in ensuring that the services the state says must be provided for Texas residents are carried out at the local level. The TexasCounties4U Web site provides important information to make it much easier to understand the role of county government.

And, while on the subject of great Web sites…if you've not checked out SPI's new site, www.spartnerships.com, please do. We've got a whole new look.
