PUC Spokesperson Terry Hadley said the PUC approval included an environmental assessment of the projects that concluded the transmission line would not threaten plants, animals or ecological resources.
The 21-mile transmission line approved by the PUC will carry about 388 megawatts of electricity to the transmission network, also known as the grid. This electricity will be delivered to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas Inc. (ERCOT), the nonprofit organization that administers the state's power grid, Hadley said.
"This is the first phase of this project and its only one transmission line," Hadley said. "Many more will be needed to transport all of the electricity they intend to produce to the grid."
