Texas voters endorse $15M in improvement projects

      . . . continued from page one

Houston ISD officials got a wakeup call when the district's $805 million proposal to fund 24 new schools and renovate more than 100 older facilities barely squeaked by.

It's back to the drawing board for many local governments where voters rejected an estimated $1.2 billion in proposals throughout the state. Defeated proposals include Smith County's $125 million downtown jail, Elkhart ISD's $12.3 million proposal for a new school and a $19.5 million city hall for Cedar Park.

The bottom line is great news for vendors because the opportunities for a wide variety of contracts from new construction, renovations and purchases abound.
