Ted L. Purtle

Ted L. Purtle, Senior Consultant for SPI, brings to the team an extensive background in law enforcement, criminal justice and state agency executive level administrative experience.

During a 28-year career with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Ted served as Chief of the Inspection and Planning Division and as Highway Patrol Trooper, among several other positions. Currently he is commissioned as Special Ranger by the DPS. He taught leadership and supervision courses at the Texas DPS Academy for nearly 20 years and also served as an adjunct instructor in criminal justice at Austin Community College.

Most recently, Ted served for seven years as Police Inspector for the University of Texas System Administration, coordinating and conducting staff inspections of 15 component institution police departments. He taught several courses at UT's Police Academy.

A graduate of Lamar University, Ted also earned a Master's degree in Government, with an emphasis in public administration from the University of Texas at Austin. He also is a graduate of the 137th Session of the FBI National Academy as well as being a graduate of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Professional Development Series of courses. Additionally, Ted is a graduate of the Texas Governor's Management Development Center's Leadership, Senior Manager and Executive Development programs.

A Vietnam Veteran, Ted served as an artilleryman in the United States Marine Corps. He is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and of the Texas Police Association.
