Jerry L. Dike joins SPI after serving more than 36 years with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). By fulfilling a variety of positions within the agency, Jerry is not only well versed on transportation issues in Texas and other states, but also on the appropriations process, procurement practices, and other mechanisms of Texas state government.
Since he was named director of the Vehicle Titles and Registration Division of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in April 1992, Jerry administered vehicle registration and titling for 18 million vehicles collecting over $4 billion annually for state and local government. In this role, he also directed salvage yards and automobile theft prevention activities.
Jerry began his career with TxDOT in 1965 as a summer employee in the Tyler District. He became a full-time employee four years later with the Automation Division, holding several managerial and technical jobs over a 16-year period. For several years, Jerry was on loan to the governor's office as an instructor in the Manager of Managers Program. He returned to TxDOT as director of planning and special projects in the Highway Design Division. He chaired a department-wide task force that performed a functional review of TxDOT's $6 billion biennial budget. Jerry then became assistant director for the Equipment and Procurement Division, responsible for purchasing several hundred million dollars annually in goods, services, supplies and equipment.
As the chief motor vehicle administrator for Texas, Jerry was active in the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), serving as President of Region II, chair of the AAMVA International Board, and an officer for five years on the AAMVA Executive Committee.
Jerry was honored by TxDOT in 1995 with the Raymond E. Stotzer, Jr. Award for outstanding leadership, dedication and service to the state in the field of transportation. The relationships he built during his years of public service and his knowledge of the transportation industry in Texas and around the country are major assets for the SPI team.
Jerry received his Bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science and Master's degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
