John Alexander

SPI Consultant John Alexander brings a dual background in both higher education and state government to SPI and will assist clients interested in interacting with the state's colleges and universities and with state agencies.

Prior to joining SPI, John was director of grant development and administration at Midwestern State University, where he also previously served as vice president of administration and finance. Serving as both associate and assistant vice chancellor for budget and planning at the University of Houston System helped him hewn his skills and insight into the revenue side of higher education. Early in his higher ed career, John worked as an education researcher for the Kentucky Commission on Postsecondary Education.

In between his higher education opportunities, John was able to work in numerous jobs related to Texas state government and government relations. He served as a senior budget analyst in the Governor's Office of Budget and Planning and worked for the Legislative Budget Board as both a budget examiner and as deputy director of the Select Committee on Financing Higher Education in Texas. He also was executive director of government relations at the Univeristy of Houston System.

John has served a number of professional organizations, from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education to the National Center on Higher Education Management Systems. He has been active in committee work with such organizations and agencies as the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the National Society of Fundraising Executives, the Greater Houston Partnership and the Southeast Legislative Education Conference of Texas.

John earned his bachelor's, master's and Ed.D. degrees from the University of Kentucky.
