Gordon Pierce has spent more than 25 years in municipal government in a variety of positions, and brings that expertise to SPI after also having served as city manager in three Texas cities.
He began his career in city government in the early 1970s in Lancaster, holding a number of positions, including staff for the Planning and Zoning Commission, Street Department Superintendent, Director of Parks and Recreation and later as both acting and assistant city manager. He later served as city manager for the cities of Jacksonville and Nacogdoches. Gordon retired as city manager of Terrell in June 2007.
Gordon has completed additional professional development courses at Texas A&M University, the Southwest School of Municipal Finance at Texas Tech and at the Southwest Legal Studies Foundation. He is past president of the East Texas City Managers Association, the Texas Foundation for Improvement of Local Government and the Texas City Management Association. He has also held membership in the International City Management Association and the North Texas City Managers Association.
Gordon holds a bachelor’s degree in political science with an emphasis in urban studies from The University of Texas at Dallas and a Master of Science in Public Planning and Administration from The University of Texas at Tyler.
